Meet the team:
Lucy Smith
Associate Assistant Principal, Designated Safeguarding Lead & Teacher of Psychology
As a leader and a teacher my aim has always been to ensure that every student has every opportunity to succeed and excel. When studying Psychology at University at both Undergraduate and Master Level it became very apparent to me the impact that good well-being support can have on a person’s ability to succeed. Wellbeing support to me is crucial because it plays a fundamental role in helping individuals maintain their mental, emotional, and physical health, which directly impacts their ability to learn, grow, and succeed. For students, in particular, the pressures of academic performance, social expectations, and future planning can be overwhelming. Wellbeing support provides them with the tools and resources they need to manage stress, build resilience, and navigate challenges effectively. My role involves providing expert guidance and training to all staff on safeguarding procedures, ensuring that everyone understands how to protect and support our students effectively. Out ultimate goal as a team is to ensure that students feel safe and that that they have a range of support they can access should they feel they need it.

Bethany Vakulich
Mental Health and Wellbeing Mentor
As a mental health mentor at college, my role is to provide guidance, support, and encouragement to students navigating the challenges of college life. I strive to create a safe and non-judgmental environment where students feel comfortable discussing their mental health concerns, stressors, and personal struggles. My aim is to listen actively, offer practical coping strategies, and connect students with additional resources such as counselling services or support groups when needed. By fostering a sense of understanding and empathy, I help students build mental toughness, develop healthy coping mechanisms, and maintain a balanced approach to their academic and personal lives. Ultimately, my goal is to empower students to prioritise their mental well-being, reduce stigma, and cultivate a positive and supportive college community.
