The Maltings College and Trinity Academy Halifax 6th Form become Trinity Sixth Form Academy

In 2016, at the request of the DfE, Trinity MAT took on The Maltings College, an underperforming free school college which offered a mainly vocational curriculum.  Therefore, until September 2019, Trinity Multi Academy Trust (formed in 2015) had two post-16 institutions: The Maltings College (TMC) and Trinity Academy Halifax 6th Form (TAH).

Trinity Academy Halifax  (TAH)  6th Form was Trinity Sixth Form Academy’s (TSFA) predecessor in terms of staff, curriculum and students.  TSFA started its journey in September 2019 as an institution on the original site of Trinity Academy Halifax 6th Form, in the Holmfield area of Halifax.  Trinity Academy Halifax 6th Form was rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in 2013.  In 2019, the college secured outcomes that placed it in the top 10% of 6th Form colleges Nationally.

In September 2019, as part of the agreement for creating a town centre Sixth Form provision, Trinity Academy Halifax (TAH) 6th Form had to cease to exist as an institution.  It was decided that the free school, ‘The Maltings College’, be continued as the sole post 16 provider for Trinity MAT.  So, The Maltings College was re-branded as Trinity Sixth Form Academy (TSFA) taking on the URN of  The Maltings College  and with it, a ‘Requires Improvement’ Ofsted rating, which had been issued in March 2018.
